Supplies list:
table easel
hard surface to set on the easel so you can tape a pastel surface support to it
basic set of soft pastels (I do have about 3 sets of 36 for purchase for $20.00 each if someone wishes - I got them on sale!)
pastels pencils and smaller harder pastels if you have them. (I will have some available to use.)
blending stomps (tortillons). (I will also have some there to use)
pastel paper that you have used (I will provide other paper to try for participants as well)
kneadable grey eraser (again, I will bring several to give out if you do not have one)
cloths to wipe your hands with
older, stiff paintbrush (if you have them...to use for removing pastel from the paper)
barrier cream for hands or gloves, if you wish
We will be working on one photo which I will provide, and concentrating on a landscape with water in it. If you have something else you would like to do, please bring it with you as well.
We will cover some of the differences of pastels, the papers, and touch on pan pastels, however, there won't be enough time to go into pan pastels more fully. Basic concepts of composition, value and tone will be worked on through the photo we will use. I am currently reviewing possible photos and will send one to the guild ahead of the course so it can be distributed to participants, and will have copies at the course as well.
Bio:
Art has always been a love of mine for as long as I can recall. I was finally able to delve into my love finally in 2000,when I was able to attend a few pastel classes with instructor, Ron Wigglesworth, through the U of A Extension Department. Pastels became my first love, but I have also since expanded into acrylics as well. Nature will always be a favourite subject, however, I am challenged by portraiture, still life and abstract as well! I have been able to participate in group shows and host solo shows over the years with some success and continue to work in pastels to expand my skills. The unique lush nature of directly "painting" with your hands holding pastels will always be a siren call for me. I hope to introduce more people to this wonderful world of color.
