Theme: Learn the beginnings of negative painting in a way that is easy and just plain makes sense. We will develop a better understanding of analogous colours, as well as complimentary colours in shadow.

Supplies list: scroll down on this page to see the recommended items to bring

About the class: The Red Winged Blackbird – Watercolour for ALL ability levels Native American Folklore associates the call of the Red Winged Blackbird with abundance, joy and healthy crops. They also are viewed as possessing courage and strength, and standing up against fear! So, come face your watercolour fears, and join us for a day of painting this beautiful bird, hiding in the summer cattails! By the end of the day, we should all be tweeting their beautiful call that welcomes us in spring!

Beginners: Never fear. There will be a designated area for you, so Barb can assist you all at the same time…with a bit more frequency. Any other needs? Just let Barb know. Behanson45@gmail.com

Intermediate/ Advanced: You will be encouraged to provide much more detail and techniques as suggested throughout, and Barb will give you individual suggestions

About your instructor: Barb is a retired principal, University professor, and author. She loves to teach, and help others grow and learn at their own levels, and is nice pretty much most of the time. Her art has been collected in Australia, Germany, France and all across Canada, and is currently in a few galleries on the East Coast. Barb has dabbled in many areas of the arts, but her preferred mediums she has finally decided to settle on are watercolour, then oils. ( She also LOVES being a Gramma, but finds the hockey arenas lack adequate bum heating).

Please note: this class is by registration only, and has a maximum student number of 25
